Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported missile fragments fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
